London Mayor Sadiq Khan recently stated that the readiness for terrorist attacks is an “integral part” of life in a big city. His statement may seem almost audacious, but it holds true. Not long ago, we read about a rampage at a village dance in rural France, shortly followed by the “stabber” from Dublin who attacked three children and a teacher. There is an increasing number of reports on violent incidents even in our own country.
Each time, these are brutal attacks, unacceptable crimes that should be treated as such, especially in the media. There is no room for glossing over and using words that would soften the event for readers, as a result of which people may not realise the seriousness of the matter. And no, it is not about fearmongering, as some would call it; it is about facts. And these facts show that with the increasing number of illegal migrants, people are at risk. They are endangered to the extent that, according to Khan’s words, we should accept this and acknowledge the new reality – the potential for a terrorist attack.
Media is not the only entity to blame for distorting reality and concealing the truth. The government, as the first on the list responsible for protecting its citizens, is also accountable. For instance, in the case of Dublin, we saw how the government reacted when the Irish took to the streets out of “fear” and expressed disagreement with the government’s migration policy and their indifference to people’s safety.
The government, media, and police, instead of focusing on the crime and the criminal, who was in this case an Algerian, turned against the people. They labelled them as radicals and portrayed them as villains. It sounds unreasonable, but it is clear why. Because they simply do not want to hear the truth. They do not want to hear criticism that could potentially jeopardise their position or, in other cases, raise doubts about their ability to govern. It is all about the power game, and the victims that arise from it are collateral damage for them.
The political class has embarked on a crazy experiment that discards all the most fundamental elements of reason. Instead of preserving the distinctiveness of nations, they want to replace us and force us to live in fear, with violence. Their behaviour is not normal and should not be treated as such, so I wonder whether we will really accept that terrorist attacks become our new reality, or will we demand from the authorities to fulfil what they committed to with their oath.
