Slovenia pays one of the highest electricity prices in Europe. At the same time, the energy crisis is intensifying, many companies have already reduced their production due to the high prices of energy products, and in the coming weeks they are planning additional production restrictions, including partial closures.

This is also pointed out by the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia. They expect the government to immediately draft an intervention law modelled on the anti-crisis legislative package, which will enable companies to use measures to retain employees. They warn that the government already announced the operationalisation of the measures for September, but this has not yet happened.

For some time now, there have also been rumours that the company GEN-I, when it was headed by Robert Golob, sold leased Slovenian electricity to foreign markets for a long period of time at very low prices. There is talk of a price of 100 euros per megawatt hour of electricity, which the Golob’s declared to be a good deal. Employees received high bonuses, Golob also received 20,000 euros net per month in GEN-I last year.

At the same time, GEN-I forgot about the long-planned overhaul of the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, which is taking place right now. GEN-I must guarantee supply to customers who bought cheap electricity under option contracts, otherwise it faces heavy fines. Slovenia now buys electricity on foreign markets.

All this is now being blamed on Slovenian electricity consumers by Golob, and he is covering his own mistakes with our money.

His goal is also to nationalise the company Geoplin and maybe even Petrol, where he plans to pour hundreds of millions of euros of taxpayers’ money. In addition to the one in GEN-I.

At the same time, experts warn that in this way the ground is being prepared for the privatisation of this part of the state’s energy sector. The goal is supposedly a so-called third privatisation in Slovenia.

It is scandalous behaviour that is not talked about much in public. At the same time, some are relying on the fact that the EU should adopt a cap on the price of energy, but experts believe that this will not happen.

In the coming weeks, therefore, we are in for a collapse, largely because of Golob.
