Fear of change!

By: Arian Sajovic

Last week, rumours began to appear in the public about how the former Nova24TV journalist Luka Svetina will become one of the presenters of the evening Odmevi show on the national RTV, which was later confirmed. News that triggered an avalanche of criticism and almost panicked crying and moaning from left-wing journalistic circles. Why such a response?

Ever since the establishment of the former social system, the Slovenian media space, like the judiciary, higher education, prosecution, and bureaucracy, has enjoyed the comfort of monopolistic self-regeneration of its own personnel, which has also been transferred to the newly created democratic system in which we live today. “Experienced” judges, professors and journalists or editors have the opportunity to appoint selected protégés as their successors in high positions in the name of ensuring professionally suitable personnel.

Staffing arrangement, which sounds great in theory, but what if the dissenting profession has been systematically suppressed and destroyed since the Second World War. This means that the levers of power remained in the hands of the old structures that did not receive lustration after independence, which continues to provide them with a position of power even today, so it is no wonder that they are not in favour of any changes. After all, why would you want to let go of the reins of a horse that serves you well.

Therefore, changes such as the installation of an ideologically different leader on public television will by no means be warmly received, as they threaten the current situation. The remnants of the communist structure are fearfully aware that the long-awaited change of the generation of experts, which is politically diverse, is gradually but steadily coming, so they are trying in every way to postpone the imminent loss of absolute supremacy. Dissidents are part of society, and we are not going anywhere, so it is time for the left to realise its own teachings and accept the fact that “diversity is our greatest strength”. Only with it will we be able to bring this country to heights that they cannot or do not want to reach.
