A rebirth, or rather, a more ravenous version of the champagne left. Successfully converted. For now.

By: Vančo K. Tegov

After several months of public conditioning, a new party has been “reborn” – though it resembles more a parking lot for those already worn out, partially discarded, or outright dumped on the political scrap heap by the previous “owner” of the brand.

The Roma “son-in-law” Vladimir Prebilič, in the style of his would-be in-laws, wandered to the margins, or perhaps deeper into the political landfill, and rummaged, loaded, stacked, sorted (he got 200 signatures) something that will now be called a party. Another dish prepared by the familiar recipe for instant political meals, soon to appear on the menu of the gullible and the politically thirsty led across the water.

So how did it go?

In Kočevje, the party Prerod (Rebirth) was founded. But what exactly was reborn, born, or malformed?

Nothing good. Certainly not for the citizens. When someone, countless times over, as a descendant of the structures that occupied and “Serbianised” the region along the Kolpa after the forced removal of the Gottscheers, converts from a faux patriot, known also as a speaker at the Kočevska Reka military formation, to a thoroughly unsuccessful mayor who survived only thanks to his “kinfolk,” and then to an ecologist who, with help from the green party Vesna, made it to the European Parliament… that is quite the outcome for a defence professor and professional fog-spinner. He did not even betray his ancestors: in the EU Parliament, he spoke in a language that is not official in EU institutions. Deliberately, as part of the Prerod project, or rather, the ravenous left, assembled from ingredients that reek of stale LDS and its derivatives, which emerged later and shared similar letters in their acronyms, or even syllables (Prebilič could not resist gifting the first three letters of his surname – PRE – to the party name), along with the personal names of the usual political “vampires.”

Names starting with the chief “vampire,” followed by Dušan Vučko, Štefan Čelan, Dragan Matić, Nina Pirnat, Mitja Bervar, Boštjan Koražija, Edis Rujović, Zlatka Keček, and the “legendary” eternal youth Brane Golubović. Even the red-haired principal from Celje, Marjana Kolenko, wants to add her ladle to this colourful stew. The only “disappointment”? The absence of Jani Möderndorfer and Janja Sluga (formerly of Trbovlje), who has long operated in Celje and has always been the “seasoning” in every instant political party – sorry, stew – that initially seemed palatable but soon turned rancid and tasteless. Whether this is tactical or not remains to be seen. Let’s hope that “joyful” news arrives soon.

What can we expect?

The party Prerod, in its foundational programme, claims to believe in politics that transcend narrow divisions and reject the logic of two poles. Tralala. In the same breath, the first reborn, sorry, ravenous, member declares that cooperation or coalition with the SDS is not an option. After listing this and that, it becomes clear that the grand patriarch of the political scene, the “donkey from Goričko,” also known as Milan Kučan, did not not give him, without whose blessing nothing moves, much room to manoeuvre or collaborate across the political river dividing two banks. Platitudes about a better future and different governance will flood the airwaves if they succeed in the parliamentary elections. Promises of a better life and all that jazz. Poor word choice, even poorer thinking – except for the blindly loyal.

Do you believe him?

It is shallow, hollow, and even the “reborn” himself seems to treat it as something that will not automatically grant him the position he desires, Prime Minister. That is why he wants to stay on the payroll of the European Parliament until a “reliable” victory. He fears the job market and unemployment if he fails in the national elections. So, he is saying as much as possible to stay parked far from the parliament. What we need is a return to reason and someone else, someone who will improve the reality and daily life of citizens, not plant “flowers” that will be chilled by the first political breeze or frozen by spring frost.

Citizens have been scalded and deceived many times. The REborn Prebilič is a highly reliable candidate for the next round of political deception. For once, give priority to reason over emotion, to a better reality over an unreliable and intangible future. Do not dwell on what someone says, focus on what they can actually do. Prebilič can do very little, but says far too much about everything imaginable.
