The Office of the State Prosecutor General of the Republic of Slovenia confirmed that the indictment in the Stožice case was final for the mayor of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković, and eight other co-accused in the case. Dark shadows fall on the party of Alenka Bratušek again with this case, since its visible member, Roman Jakič, is also among the co-accused. All nine of them filed objections that the court has already rejected as unfounded. In addition to Janković and Jakič, the rest of the co-accused in the case are Uroš Ogrin and Zlatko Sraka from Grep; former Director of the Public Company Ljubljana Parking and Market Samo Lozej, who has been running the Ljubljana Thermal Power Plant in recent years; Marko Kolenc, Head of the Municipal Department of Sport; Andrej Lavrič; Boris Skubic and Milan Črepinšek.
The Office of the State Prosecutor General has confirmed for STA news agency that the indictment against Zoran Janković and eight other co-accused was final. The prosecution filed an indictment concerning the Stožice case on May 18th this year, that is, six years after the first house searches took place. The prosecution accused nine persons of several criminal offenses, including official abuse of power or abuse of official rights, fraud to the detriment of the EU, deception in obtaining a loan or benefit, and falsifying or destroying business documents. Grep, the contractor of the project, became creditworthy only after signing an allegedly fictitious contract worth 1.8 million euros for renting parking lots in Stožice. After signing the contract, Grep became creditworthy and could borrow a 50-million-euro loan from the state-owned bank Nova Ljubljanska banka. The Municipality of Ljubljana thus fulfilled the condition for obtaining European and state funds in the amount of 9.4 million euros.
The Grep company then went bankrupt, the Stožice project remained incomplete, and behind it the company left a number of unpaid subcontractors. Janković does not feel guilty of course, as he recently announced his candidacy for his fourth term as mayor of Ljubljana. We recently reported on the web portal Nova24TV about the suspicious behavior of the Janković family, after Zoran Janković’s son announced his personal bankruptcy. Damijan Janković apparently wants to continue to do business on behalf of his partner Ursula Gawish, who has registered an entrepreneurship. This means that she will be personally liable for the business and the debts, so we rightly wonder, is this kind of carelessness of the family intentional?
Roman Jakič of the Alenka Bratušek Party among the co-accused
The former director of the Tivoli Institute, Ljubljana city councilman, and former defense minister, Roman Jakič is among the co-accused in the case. After changing several political parties, he went from ZSMS to LDS, then Zares, then Pozitivna Slovenia, and he is currently the president of the Council of the Alenka Bratušek Party. Many shadows are falling over Bratušek’s party lately. The dust has not settled since the discovery of Darinka Bukovnik’s disposal of donated money, intended to co-finance a treatment of a sick six-year-old girl in the United States.
