Asta Vrečko outdoes even the legendary Maša Kociper: “A third traffic lane will not reduce congestion”

By: Celjski glasnik

Perhaps the time has finally come in Slovenia to adopt legislation requiring mandatory drug testing for members of parliament. It might even be worth considering whether MPs should have to undergo psychological evaluations before taking office in order to demonstrate that they are fit for the role.

The statements made by some members of parliament genuinely border on science fiction.

If Maša Kociper had until now been considered the “queen” of ill-considered remarks, she has surely now been surpassed by Asta Vrečko herself. The current MP and former minister recently concluded that expanding road infrastructure would not reduce traffic congestion, which is why her party opposes such measures and supports only the maintenance of existing infrastructure. In the same breath, however, she argued that public transport could solve these traffic problems.

Had Asta Vrečko ever regularly used this mode of transport, she might have noticed that public transportation also moves very slowly on the existing infrastructure because it gets stuck in the same traffic jams. In response to such remarks, Edvard Kadič wrote: “A third lane does not reduce traffic congestion? Remember that every time you are stuck in traffic. Every day. Everywhere.”
