When you find yourself on the wrong side

By: Dr Andreja Valič Zver

When comrade coordinator Vrečko writes on social media that the United States is fighting for “… oil, power, and influence,” and that “no conflict is resolved through war and violence,” and then retweets Levica’s statement that we must “withdraw from NATO,” and “establish an alliance for peace in Europe,” the situation becomes clear.

Even in 1990 they were not capable of such authentic leftist propaganda as they are 36 years later. The left’s worn‑out mantras about imperialist powers, the pacifism of Hezbollah and Hamas, flower‑power rhetoric, and similar clichés have once again flooded social media in recent days. They activate every time their allies and financiers are threatened, from Palestine, Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, and China to Iran. Murderous regimes that endanger their own citizens, neighbouring states, and entire regions are inexplicably attractive to the leftardom.

But when her excellency Tanja Fajon joins in with her famous “concern,” you realise these ladies live in a parallel reality built from the ground up on a fake foundation. Our left feeds on the ideas of Albanese, Guterres, Varoufakis, and other media‑celebrated and variously awarded eccentrics.

And so that we do not blame only foreigners for the misguided paths of the Slovenian government when it comes to assessing the current geopolitical situation, let’s say it directly – they have always been on the side of the Iranian regime. They have never clearly supported the opposition and the citizens who suffer unbelievable violence under the rule of the mullahs, that is, a theocratic regime that justifies brutal violence as “God’s will.” On the contrary, the Slovenian authorities actively cooperated with them, especially in the financial sector, just recall the infamous money‑laundering affair at NLB, which never reached its conclusion. And in many other ways.

The United States and Israel struck Iran, exactly as everyone expected. The guardians of global democracy and freedom cannot allow the world to be ruled by people who are leaders in supporting global terrorism. The Iranian regime has become not only a regional power but a global one. With ballistic missiles it threatens not only Israel but also Europe; its Revolutionary Guard controls a significant part of the drug‑trafficking routes from Latin America to Europe and beyond. The regime has developed a top‑tier military industry, enabled in part by certain European leaders through the so‑called nuclear deal. This historic “scam” was understood only by the Americans, who withdrew from it on 8 May 2018. Since then, many believed that Iranian tyranny would eventually end. We knew the U.S. would act sooner or later. It is just a pity that Europe’s top eurocrats, the high representatives for security and foreign policy, such as the incriminated Mogherini and her successor Borrell, failed to understand the signs of the times.

Some Slovenian mainstream media are reporting that the U.S. has a problem. A problem? Yes – that they supposedly lack a motive for the latest strike! Similar things happened after the Iraq war in 2003. Even though the Americans did not find weapons of mass destruction, the genocide against the Kurds was well known and could not be ignored. Not to mention the drastic violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Yet for leftists this remains an “open” issue even today. If human suffering is not a reason for intervention against proven dictators, one must ask what still has value. To reduce the legitimacy of U.S. and Israeli intervention in Iran and help the regime, our media are now raising questions about oil prices, which are supposedly about to skyrocket. Iran, they claim, will punish all oil consumers, including Slovenians, by blocking the Strait of Hormuz.

Many say Trump’s geopolitics is trivial. But the fact is that it is extremely successful and has indirect effects as well. Drug cartels are in uncertainty, South American authoritarian regimes cooperating with narco‑mafias are losing ground (Bolivia, Chile, Honduras, Costa Rica). Elections are coming, swept by a global right‑wing wind, in Peru, Colombia, and next year in Brazil. One spectacular action by U.S. soldiers kidnapping the criminal Maduro – and a good part of the world shakes. The Trump–Netanyahu operation will not only stabilise the Middle East; it will influence other parts of the world as well, including Putin. So, do you understand their reactions now.
