Record employment is a great starting point for the next election

In December 2021, we achieved a record high number of persons in employment, as there were 916,800 of them, which is the highest value for the sixth month in a row since we have been monitoring the register data on persons in employment. On a global scale, we are also among the countries with the lowest unemployment and stand alongside the G7 countries. In the European Union, only the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic have lower unemployment. “The numbers do not lie. Slovenia is among the top countries in the world in the unemployment indicator. A great starting point for a centre-right coalition before April 24th, 2022,” said a Twitter user.

The number of persons in employment in Slovenia increased by 2.9 percent on an annual basis and again reached its highest value. In December 2021, there were approximately 916,800 working people (or 0.4 percent more than a month ago), which is the highest value for the sixth month in a row since we have been monitoring the register data on persons in employment. The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia also reports that their average age has not changed compared to the previous December.

The number of working men increased significantly (by 0.7 percent, to just over 505,700), and their average age was 43 years. This time, after four consecutive months of growth, the number of women in employment fell by 0.1 percent (to about 411,100). On average, they were 43.8 years old (that is 0.1 years more than a year ago).

Slovenia’s success in overcoming the crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic and in maintaining low unemployment is also noticed by foreign recognised international organisations such as the OECD. According to the measurements carried out by the OECD for 2021, Slovenia ranks among the countries with the lowest unemployment and stands next to the G7 countries. In Slovenia, the unemployment rate in December 2021 was 4.6 percent. “The numbers do not lie. Slovenia is among the top countries in the world in the unemployment indicator. A great starting point for the centre-right coalition before April 24th, 2022,” said a Twitter user.

In the G7, the unemployment rate was 4.34 percent, and the OECD average was 5.37 percent. In the European Union, in December 2021, only the Netherlands (3.8 percent), Hungary (3.7 percent), Poland (2.9 percent), and the Czech Republic (2.1 percent) had lower unemployment than Slovenia. On the other hand, Spain (13 percent), Greece (12.7 percent) and Italy (nine percent) had the highest unemployment. Last but not least, Sweden is very surprising with the extremely successful and well-known measures, which record as much as 9% unemployment.
