Koper police officers have filed a criminal complaint against a Somali citizen who is just suspected of committing several property crimes. After questioning by the investigating judge, he was remanded in custody.

On August 30^th, 2021, at 1.23 am, OKC PU Koper received a call from a citizen from Kolomban that an unknown man had run out of their house. On the same day, they received a call from a citizen from the Ankaran area that a stranger had come to her house and stolen her money.

Police officers from the Koper Police Station, in cooperation with police officers from the Koper Police Dog Guide Station, tracked down a man, a 25-year-old Somali citizen with a regulated status in Italy, in the Kolomban area. The perpetrator was taken into custody.

When verifying the circumstances of the reported crimes, it was first established that the just suspect of committing the crime of grand theft committed the thefts in a particularly brazen manner. A further investigation established that the Somali citizen had undoubtedly committed a total of six crimes between June 2021 and August 30^th, 2021 inclusive, and in a few cases he was chased away from the scene. He stole jewellery and money from the victims.

The Italian security authorities, with whom the criminals cooperated in the investigation, announced that they had treated the same suspect for similar acts in the area of Trieste and its surroundings.

On August 31^st, 2021, the suspect was brought for questioning to the investigating judge of the District Court in Koper, who ordered his detention.

“We would like to thank all the citizens who provided additional information to the police during the criminal investigation phase. These significantly helped to clarify all the circumstances, and also on the basis of this information, the suspect was remanded in custody,” the police said.
