The Foreign Ministry called for “immediate release” of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny.
“Unhindered activities of opposition politicians are the foundation of a free democratic world,” the ministry said in a post on its Twitter account on Sunday. After spending several months in Germany to be treated for Novichok poisoning, Navalny returned to Russia on Sunday and was detained by police soon after his flight landed at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
