Last week, new premises for patients suffering from COVID-19 were opened at the University Medical Center in Ljubljana, and the first patients were immediately placed in them. The space was set up in just 10 days, as contractors worked on site for 16 hours a day. Currently, it can accommodate 56 patients, but if necessary, there is space for up to 100 patients.
The new hospital premises is provided with food, cleaning, waste collection in an appropriate manner and logistics, all installations, including oxygen, are installed, and if any of the patients’ condition worsens, they will be able to intensively treat them on the spot. A hospital in 10 days is proof that a lot can be done and that the epidemic can be limited by joint efforts. It is unfortunate that the epidemic in Slovenia had to spread so much that as many as 34 people died from COVID-19 in one day, completely unnecessary as we had a good epidemiological picture in the summer.
Were it not for the opponents of measures against the spread of the virus, such austere measures as are currently in place might not be necessary. We would have the epidemic under control with more lenient measures if everyone had adhered to them. But there is no use crying over spilt milk. These days, everything is closed, including schools and classes moved online. Fortunately, the number of new infections has started to decline, but the danger is far from over and some restrictions will certainly have to be implemented for longer; in fact, more or less all winter long, until spring, when we will, hopefully, get a vaccine as well as more effective medication. It is good that we have a government and Prime Minister who work tirelessly for the good of Slovenia.
Thus, in the past few days, they have already discussed the sixth anti-COVID law, which helps the economy in all possible ways. However, life after the epidemic, when it is over, will not return to the old rails right away. The epidemic has not only affected Slovenia with illness and death directly, but it has also exposed many other things. The economy will recover sooner or later, but will the broken relations be re-established? It will never be the same again: some friendships will deepen and solidify, others will disappear forever, and fortunately, some new ones will certainly emerge. I hope as many as possible!
