Jean Abdo Arbach, the archbishop of the Syrian city of Homs, thanked Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the Hungarian people for the support which allowed 200 Syrian refugee families to return to their homes, PM Orban’s press chief told Hungary’s state news agency (MTI) on Monday.

In Syria, two Christian youth centres an 200 flats – destroyed during the violence that has been ravaging the country since 2011 – have been renovated in the city of Homs with the help of Hungary, the Syrian church dignitary recalled in his letter.

“We pray for you and for Hungary to become an increasingly stable shield of persecuted Christian values in the world,” Archbishop Jean Abdo Arbach wrote to Viktor Orban.

The contributing partner in the implementation of the Homs programme was the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta, PM Orban’s press chief, Bertalan Havasi, told Hungary’s state news agency (MTI).
