Another EU country – Czech Republic – orders Chinese vaccine

The V4 country struggling with vaccine shortages may soon receive the Sinopharm vaccine from China.

China will deliver Sinopharm vaccines to the Czech Republic at the request of Czech President Milos Zeman, Czech presidential spokesman Jiri Ovcacek announced on Wendnesday on Twitter.

According to the spokesman, Prime Minister Andrej Babis asked the president to turn to China for the procurement of the Sinopharm vaccine. “The president granted the request and wrote a letter to the Chinese president. According to a report by the Czech Embassy in Beijing, China has decided to immediately fulfil the request,” the brief post reads.

The number of doses China will supply to the Czech Republic has not yet been announced. The Czech Republic is struggling with vaccine shortages and is currently in a very serious situation in terms of the pandemic.

According to the latest data, health authorities registered 15,088 new infections in the country on Wednesday, and the total number of those infected has reached 1.2 million.
