Andrzej Duda: Visegrad Group an important catalyst of Central-European cooperation

By: V4 Agency

The Visegrad Group is an important, if not the most important player in mobilising regional cooperation in Central Europe, Polish President Andrzej Duda said at the two-day summit attended by the Visegrad countries’ heads of state in Jurata.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Visegrad Group (V4), Poland’s president welcomed the heads of state of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

If we look at the past three decades that have passed since the fall of communism, we will see that they are filled not only with great economic and political successes, but also with oustanding social and civilization development, which rarely happens in our world in such a short amount of time, President Andrzej Duda said.

According to Mr Duda, the states and nations of the Visegrad Group “in a historical, political, economic and social sense have undergone a fundamental, generational change”. They have constituted and still “constitute a common cultural and ideological circle and a common memory of the dramatic events of the 20th century and the evil of two totalitarian dictatorships.”

He underlined that the Visegrad Group has also proved its utility in a broader, European and transatlantic context, “because it’s now an important, if not the most important player in mobilising regional cooperation throughout Central Europe, but also in making a significant contribution to cooperation and processes concerning EU and NATO policy.”
