Belgium: Neighborhood sounds alarm about migrant youth gang ruining Anderlecht

Residents of Aviation Square in Anderlecht, in an open letter to the city council, have sounded the alarm about a migrant youth gang that has ruined the atmosphere of the community.

In an open letter to the police and mayor of the city, the local residents say that for weeks now, a large group of migrant youths have been hanging around Aviation Square, taking drugs, robbing, and harassing passers-by, Belgian news portal Bruzz reports.

According a resident name Inge who lives on the Aviation Square along the Kleine Ring, the migrant youths, who do not respect the coronavirus lockdown measures, often “approach [residents]very aggressively or spit when someone makes a comment.”

Inge says that every evening the group of boys occupy the square and can be seen arguing with one another, sniffing glue, smoking drugs, and harassing passers-by.

“I no longer dare to jog alone at night. The atmosphere is really grim,” she says, adding that she no longer wants to play in and around the square with her two toddlers.

“From young to old, they are all drugged. Their behavior is clearly influenced by it,” she says.
