Chicago police block church parking lots to prohibit large gatherings.
The Chicago Police Department dispatched patrol vehicles to block some church parking lots on Sunday in order to prevent large gatherings and enforce the state's stay-at-home order.
On direct orders from Mayor Lori Lightfoot, city police blocked the private parking lot of Albany Bank, where members of Elim Romanian Pentecostal Church have parked for the last 18 years.
Lightfoot announced Monday that the city will fine churches that defy the stay-at-home order by conducting in-person services with more than 10 people.
She asked churches to refrain from large gatherings until Chicago begins to reopen in June.
