161 illegal migrants detained in North Macedonia

Security forces in North Macedonia have reported having arrested 161 migrants who were trying sneak into the country illegally from Greece.

Police said in a statement that the migrants were found in the southern region of the country by local police as well as by officers from other European countries who are assisting in the patrol of North Macedonia’s border, AFP reports.

The migrants were said to have been traveling in four groups which were comprised of nationals of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Eritrea.

After being detained the migrants were taken to a detention facility in the town of Gevgelija where they will be held until they’re deported to Greece.
